Guitar Lessons

My guitar lessons are aimed at both beginners and those wishing to progress with their playing. They are suitable for all ages, as well as being tailored specifically for your tastes, ability, and the time that you have available. My aim is to help you to learn your chosen instrument in the way that you want to learn it.

Just want to learn songs?

If you just want to learn how to play your favourite songs, that’s great! To be honest, that’s all I wanted to do when I first started playing and that’s certainly how the vast majority of your favourite guitarists would have learned to!

Your mastery of techniques such as picking, strumming and playing chords can develop simply by learning songs that you think are cool. If a song you like is a little too tricky, then I can always simplify it and have you playing your favourite songs in no time! Likewise, if you find a particular song a little too simple, then I can certainly find more challenging ways of approaching the song for you.

My students will often turn up to lessons and request songs that they would like to learn. Using some cool software, combined with my knack of learning songs quickly, I am able to teach you the song and the relevant techniques right there and then. During the lesson, I will also prepare an easy-to-follow tab sheet, so that you are able to continue practising after the lesson.

Want to learn scales and music theory?

If you want to learn scales and music theory, then that’s also great – I have a Music degree from Leeds College of Music, so I’m also very well clued-up in that department.

I think that it’s important to have an understanding of certain areas of the guitar and of music, and with that in mind, I will try to gradually expand your knowledge of the fret board, notes and chords, all of which will be relevant to the style of music you’re into and the level at which you’re playing.

If you aren’t sure what it is that you want to learn, I can easily devise a lesson plan for you with that in mind.

I have an extensive collection of songs to choose from: from oldies to more contemporary chart hits; from classic rock and heavy metal to acoustic guitar, funk, country, blues, and pop – you name it, I’ve done it/got it! So, I’m sure that you will find something in my collection that will appeal to you.

Have fun learning guitar

I believe that guitar lessons should always be challenging, but I think that as long as you’re enjoying yourself while you’re learning, you’ll find it easier because you’ll be having fun! The more fun it is the more likely you are to progress; it really is that simple!
